I'm a writer, director, and cinematographer from the Chicago area. I fell in love with filmmaking in high school, when my now brother-in-law and I dragged our friends into the woods to make a little war movie. We failed miserably, but I was hooked.
I've been making films ever since.
Since 2012 I've written, directed, and shot documentaries and narrative films, many of them with nonprofits and community groups. Sometimes that means starting with a blank page. Sometimes it means sitting across from someone and listening until we find the story together. I still shoot, edit, and color grade much of my own work, but more and more my job is bringing the right people together to make something none of us could make alone.
I love music, and it's the standard I hold my films to. I want audiences to feel what I feel when I'm lost in a favorite album, and I try to build a film the way a musician builds a song.
Film has opened up worlds I never would have seen otherwise. It's not just the stories I get to tell, it's the stories of the folks I get to meet along the way.
